Who might be able to join this trial:
- Women of childbearing age (18–45) who are having surgery because doctors suspect they may have endometriosis (for example, due to painful periods, pain during sex, or difficulty getting pregnant)
- Women of childbearing age (18–45) who are having keyhole surgery for other non-cancerous gynaecological reasons (such as ovarian cysts, sterilisation, or fibroids) and where no signs of endometriosis are found during the operation
- Women who can speak and understand Swedish or English well enough to fill in questionnaires and give their agreement to take part in the study
Who may not be able to join:
- Women with a Body Mass Index (BMI) over 40
- Women who have gone through menopause
- Women whose ovaries have stopped working earlier than expected (known as premature ovarian failure)
- Women who have or have had an infection or inflammation in the pelvic area (pelvic inflammatory disease)
- Women who currently have or have previously had any form of cancer
- Women who are pregnant or have given birth within the last 6 months
- Women who have taken steroid medications (corticosteroids) within the last 3 months
- Women with known diseases affecting the pituitary gland, kidneys, liver, or adrenal glands
- Women with abnormal thickening of the womb lining (endometrial hyperplasia) or growths inside the womb (endometrial polyps)
- Women with heart conditions or other widespread inflammatory conditions affecting the body
