Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have a good general level of physical fitness and are able to carry out normal daily activities with little or no limitation (confirm with trial site).
  • You have been diagnosed with a specific type of nasopharyngeal cancer (a cancer in the back of the nose/throat), confirmed by a biopsy or cell sample — specifically WHO type II or III.
  • Your main tumor in the throat area has been assessed by doctors as being able to be removed by surgery before chemotherapy, and falls within certain size and spread limits (confirm with trial site).
  • The lymph nodes in your neck have been assessed as removable by surgery, and the cancer has not grown into nearby major blood vessels, skin, spine, or chest structures.
  • Any affected lymph nodes at the back of the throat meet specific size and condition requirements that make them suitable for surgery (confirm with trial site).
  • Your blood counts, liver, kidney, and other organ functions are within acceptable ranges as shown by blood tests (confirm with trial site).
  • You are willing and able to sign a consent form and follow all appointments, treatments, and tests required by the study.

Who may not be able to join:

  • Your cancer has come back after previous treatment, has spread to other parts of the body, or you have another type of cancer as well.
  • You have serious heart or lung problems that significantly affect how well those organs work.
  • Your tumor is too large or has spread too close to major blood vessels (within 0.5 cm of the main artery supplying the brain) or too far into the skull to be safely removed by surgery.
  • The lymph nodes at the back of your throat are too close to or touching the main tumor (within 0.5 cm).
  • You are unable to attend regular follow-up visits due to mental health, social, family, or geographical reasons.
  • You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • The lead doctor on the trial determines for any other reason that participation would not be appropriate for you.
