Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You must be over 18 years old
  • Your kidneys must have been working at a reduced level (less than 60% of normal function) for at least 3 months
  • You must have a significant blockage (70% or more) in at least one heart artery that is large enough to be treated (confirm with trial site)
  • The blockage in your heart artery must have heavy calcium deposits on both sides of the artery wall
  • You can be in most heart-related situations, except in the first 7 days after a heart attack

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who do not give their consent to take part in the trial
  • People who have had a heart attack within the last 7 days
  • People whose only remaining open heart artery is the one being treated (confirm with trial site)
  • People whose artery blockage has a sharp bend greater than 60 degrees, a tear in the artery wall, a blood clot, or involves a certain type of worn-out bypass graft
  • People whose heart or blood pressure is not stable enough to be treated safely
  • People who are allergic to the dye used in X-ray imaging (contrast dye)
  • People who have serious other health conditions and are not expected to live for more than one year
