Who might be able to join this trial:

• People who are willing and able to give written consent to take part in the study
• People who have been diagnosed with a thymic malignancy (a type of cancer involving the thymus gland), including thymic carcinoma, confirmed by a tissue or cell test
• People who have evidence, from scans or tissue testing, that the cancer has spread to the lining around the lungs (the pleura), either as a new finding or as a return of disease in that area
• People whose cancer has not spread outside the chest, and has not affected the pleura or the sac around the heart on the opposite side of the chest
• People aged 18 to 80 years at the time of giving consent
• People with a reasonably good level of physical functioning, as measured by a standard medical scoring tool (confirm with trial site)
• People whose lung function tests show the lungs are working above certain minimum levels, either before or after surgery (confirm with trial site)
• People whose kidneys are functioning above a certain minimum level, as measured by a standard formula using blood test results (confirm with trial site)

Who may not be able to join:

• People who require continuous oxygen use
• People who have had a sudden worsening of myasthenia gravis (a muscle weakness condition) that required starting a new medication in the past 6 months
• People who have had a kidney removed on the opposite side from where the cancer has spread to the pleura
• People who have had previous radiation therapy to the chest area in a way that would prevent the type of radiation treatment used in this trial (previous radiation to the thymus area or certain previous targeted radiation to the pleura may still be acceptable — confirm with trial site)
• People who are having a specific type of major lung surgery called extrapleural pneumonectomy (other types of surgery to remove pleural nodules or the original thymus tumour may still be acceptable — confirm with trial site)
• People who have been hospitalised for acute heart failure in the past 30 days
• People with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (a lung condition) who require more than 10 mg of prednisone or an equivalent oral steroid tablet daily at the time of registration (inhaled steroids are acceptable)
• People who have been hospitalised for unstable chest pain, or who have had a serious heart attack, within the past 3 months
• People with a history of interstitial lung disease (a condition involving scarring or inflammation deep in the lungs)
• People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
• People of any gender who are not using effective contraception
