Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have recently been diagnosed with a type of cancer called squamous cell carcinoma in the mouth, throat, voice box, or nearby areas, at a specific stage of the disease (study group)
- People who do not have cancer but are having ear, nose, or jaw/facial surgery for another reason (control group)
- People in the control group who have never had any type of cancer, anywhere in the body
- People who agree to provide blood, saliva, and stool samples, and who consent to having those samples stored for future research
- People aged 18 or older
- People who are mentally able to understand what the study involves and what it is for, and who are able to give their agreement to take part
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose cancer has spread to distant parts of the body, or who have a second cancer at the same time as their diagnosis
- People whose cancer is in a location where taking a tissue sample would interfere with important pathology testing
- People who are currently misusing drugs or substances
- People who are unwilling or unable to follow the treatment and procedures set out in the study plan
- People who are under a legal guardianship arrangement (confirm with trial site)
- People who cannot participate due to a language barrier
