Who might be able to join this trial:

- People currently experiencing a major depressive episode, as defined by standard psychiatric diagnostic guidelines (DSM-5)
- People who have not been treated with lithium-based medication in the past 12 months
- For the suicidal attempters/ideation group only: people who have had a suicidal event (attempt or serious thoughts of suicide) within the past 12 months
- For the comparison group only: people who have had no suicidal event in the past 12 months
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have ever been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, schizophrenia, or psychosis
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People who are currently restricted of their freedom due to a legal or administrative decision (for example, those in detention)
- People who are under a legal protection arrangement, such as guardianship or being under a curator
- People who are unable to understand the study procedures
- People who are not enrolled in the French National Social Security System
- People who have not given their consent to take part in the study
