Who might be able to join this trial:

Group 1 – Family members of someone with pulmonary fibrosis:

• You are over 40 years old
• You are able to read and sign a consent form agreeing to take part
• You have a close blood relative (parent, sibling, or child) who has been diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis
• You have never been diagnosed with a lung scarring or inflammation condition (interstitial lung disease)
• You have not smoked or used tobacco products in the last 6 months

Group 2 – People with early lung changes:

• You are over 40 years old
• You are able to read and sign a consent form agreeing to take part
• You have been found to have early or subtle lung changes on a scan, but not a fully established pattern of severe lung scarring (confirm with trial site)
• You have not smoked or used tobacco products in the last 6 months

Who may not be able to join:

• You have an electrical device implanted in your body, such as a pacemaker or infusion pump
• You have any metal implants, fragments, or objects in or on your body, such as surgical clips, artificial heart valves with metal parts, shrapnel, or metallic tattoos (especially near the eyes)
• Your kidneys have not been working well, based on a past blood test showing poor kidney function (confirm with trial site)
• You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding (women who could become pregnant will need a negative pregnancy blood test before joining)
• You experience severe anxiety or discomfort in enclosed spaces (claustrophobia)
• You have had a significant amount of radiation exposure from research studies in the past 12 months (confirm current limits with trial site)
• You are unable to lie flat and still inside a large scanning machine
• Your body mass index (BMI) is over 33
• The trial doctors decide for any reason that the study would not be safe or appropriate for you
• You have had pneumonia or another acute chest infection within the last 6 weeks
• You have a lung condition other than the early lung changes or emphysema
• Your lung condition has had a sudden, serious worsening in the last 6 months
• You have had a type of lung surgery called VATS (keyhole lung surgery) in the last 6 months
• You have previously had radiotherapy (radiation treatment) to your chest area
• You have a known allergy to a contrast dye called gadolinium, used in MRI scans
