Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Young people aged 12 to 17 who have reached at least the second stage of puberty
  • People who have experienced trauma involving another person (such as abuse, violence, or neglect)
  • People who have had symptoms of PTSD for at least one month, with at least one symptom from each of the four PTSD symptom groups, rated at a certain level of severity on a specialist assessment tool (confirm with trial site)

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who are currently taking or have previously taken psychiatric medications
  • People who are currently experiencing serious thoughts of harming themselves or others
  • People who are currently admitted to a hospital
  • People who are currently receiving any other form of talking therapy, or who have previously received a specific trauma-focused therapy called TF-CBT
  • People who have had a head injury that caused them to lose consciousness for more than 5 minutes
  • People whose IQ score is below 85
  • People who have a serious ongoing physical health condition
  • People who have metal in their body or braces on their teeth, as these are not compatible with MRI scanning
  • People who have been diagnosed with psychosis, bipolar I disorder, autism, a developmental disorder, or panic disorder
  • People who have a parent or sibling diagnosed with psychosis or bipolar I disorder
  • People who have been dependent on substances in the past 3 months, or who currently use drugs frequently
