Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are a Veteran.
- You had a confirmed COVID-19 infection more than 90 days ago.
- You have been diagnosed with at least 2 of the following conditions: high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, chronic kidney disease, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (a lung condition) — OR you have 1 of these conditions AND your body weight falls into the obese range (BMI over 30).
Who may not be able to join:
- You had a heart attack within the last 3 months.
- You have chest pain that happens during physical activity or is unpredictable and not well controlled.
- You have severe heart failure, meaning your heart is pumping very poorly or you have significant symptoms at rest or with minimal activity (confirm with trial site).
- Your blood pressure is very high and not controlled at the time of screening.
- A recent heart tracing (ECG/EKG) shows signs of reduced blood flow to the heart, an irregular heartbeat, or a significant electrical blockage in the heart (confirm with trial site).
- Your diabetes is poorly controlled, based on blood sugar or a blood test called HbA1C (confirm with trial site).
- You are currently being treated for cancer (other than skin cancer) within the last 3 months.
- You have a blood vessel condition in your legs that causes pain or cramping when you walk.
- You have severe arthritis that makes it hard to walk.
- You have a nerve or muscle condition that makes walking difficult, such as weakness requiring a walking aid or severe nerve damage.
- You have advanced liver disease that is no longer manageable with treatment.
- You are on dialysis due to kidney failure.
- You have severe lung disease, such as needing oxygen at home or being admitted to hospital for breathing problems or pneumonia within the last month.
- You are considered at high risk of falling, including a history of falls or broken bones.
- You have dementia, as assessed during the consent process.
- You have any other health condition that would make exercise testing or training unsafe (confirm with trial site).
- You already exercise regularly, meaning structured aerobic activity more than 3 times per week.
