Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who score 8 or higher on a standard anxiety measurement scale called the OASIS, indicating clinically elevated anxiety.
- People who have been diagnosed with one of the following as their primary mental health condition: Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Health Anxiety, Agoraphobia, Social Anxiety Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Acute Stress Disorder, Adjustment Disorder with mainly anxious mood, or a similar anxiety disorder.
- People who are not currently taking any psychiatric medications, or who have been on a stable dose of their current psychiatric medications for at least 6 weeks.
- People aged 18 or older.
- People who are able to travel to the research laboratory for study appointments.
- People who are fluent in English.
Who may not be able to join:
- People with a history of medical conditions that could make it unsafe to take part in exercises designed to provoke fear or breathing challenges — including heart or lung conditions, high blood pressure, epilepsy, history of stroke, seizures, fainting, or people who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- People who are currently receiving other psychological treatment for anxiety.
- People who have made a suicide attempt within the past 6 months.
- People who have experienced psychosis within the past 6 months.
- People with a history of moderate to severe alcohol or drug use disorder (not including nicotine) within the past 3 months.
- People who report having COVID-19 symptoms at the time of screening.
