Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have colorectal cancer that has spread to the liver (liver metastases) that cannot currently be fully removed by surgery, or may only potentially be removable, and where the remaining healthy liver after surgery would be too small (less than 30%, or less than 40% if the liver has been damaged by chemotherapy)
- People whose original bowel cancer has not yet been surgically removed, if the medical team plans to remove it either after the liver treatment or at the same time as one of the liver procedures
- People who also have cancer that has spread to the lungs or brain, if a specialist medical team has confirmed those secondary cancers can be removed by surgery or destroyed by other means
- People aged 18 years and older
- Both men and women
- People who are able to understand the trial and agree in writing to take part
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are pregnant or currently breastfeeding
- Women who have not yet reached menopause and are unwilling or unable to use oral contraception during the trial
- People with serious other health conditions that the local medical team considers too risky (confirm with trial site)
- People who have cancer that has spread outside the liver and cannot be removed by surgery or destroyed by other means
- People who have a type of liver cancer other than colorectal cancer that has spread to the liver
- People whose cancer continued to grow or spread during chemotherapy given to shrink the tumours before surgery
- People whose cancer completely disappeared in response to chemotherapy given to make the tumours operable
- People whose scans (CT, and brain CT or MRI if needed) show cancer spread outside the liver that cannot be removed or destroyed
- People whose liver shape, structure, or the position of tumours near major liver veins makes the specific combined procedure used in this trial (a technique involving two types of vein procedures) not possible
