- People who are currently admitted to a locked (secure) psychiatric ward
- People who have had an acute or ongoing illness or infection in the past two months, including upper respiratory tract infections, fever, chronic inflammatory conditions, autoimmune disorders, blood disorders, or mitochondrial diseases
- People with fructose intolerance
- People with a history of digestive conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease or irritable bowel syndrome
- People who have taken antibiotics or antifungal medications in the past two months
- People who have taken prebiotic or probiotic supplements (regularly or occasionally) in the past two months — note that yoghurt and dairy products are permitted
- People who have had gastrointestinal surgery, other than an appendix removal
- People who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
