Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are a woman between 18 and 45 years old
  • You are already scheduled to have keyhole (laparoscopic) surgery to remove an ovarian cyst
  • You have one or more ovarian cysts caused by endometriosis (called endometriomas), which have been seen on an ultrasound scan and confirmed by a tissue sample after surgery

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have used long-acting hormonal treatments (such as injections or implants) in the 3 months before joining the study
  • After surgery, the tissue sample shows an unusual type of endometrioma (confirm with trial site)
  • Your surgery also involved removing deeply embedded endometriosis tissue, part of the bowel, or the womb (uterus)
  • The cyst was not fully removed, or was only drained or cut into rather than fully taken out
  • There is any concern that the cyst could be cancerous
  • You have certain health conditions or risk factors that make it unsafe to take the combined contraceptive pill, including: very high blood pressure, diabetes affecting your eyes, kidneys, or nerves, a history of blood clots, heart disease, stroke, migraines with visual symptoms, serious liver disease, hormone-sensitive cancers, unexplained abnormal vaginal bleeding, smoking more than 15 cigarettes a day if you are 35 or older, or a body mass index (BMI) of 35 or above
  • You are planning to become pregnant within the next year
  • You do not wish to take part in the study
