Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who have been diagnosed with uterine fibroids (leiomyoma) through ultrasound and MRI scans, and who do not have symptoms from the fibroids
  • Women between 18 and 55 years of age
  • People whose largest fibroid measures less than 5cm across, and who have no more than 10 fibroids total as seen on MRI
  • People who have no medical reasons that would prevent them from safely receiving sedation and pain relief
  • People who agree to participate in the study and are able to attend follow-up appointments on time

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have previously had surgery to remove fibroids, whether through open surgery, keyhole surgery, or via a camera through the womb
  • People who have a history of connective tissue disease or have had radiotherapy, particularly to the abdomen
  • People who are pregnant, have an active infection of the reproductive tract, or have other conditions such as endometriosis or ovarian tumours
  • People whose largest fibroid measures 5cm or more across
  • People where a more serious condition such as a cancerous tumour (e.g. sarcoma) is suspected
  • People who have difficulty communicating or who would not be able to cooperate with a sedation and pain relief program
  • People who have abdominal scarring that causes significant interference with ultrasound imaging during scanning (confirm with trial site)
