Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are 18 years old or older
  • You have had a confirmed COVID-19 infection, proven by a positive PCR test, antigen test, or antibody test, and you have documentation of that positive result
  • You have had at least one symptom that started during your COVID-19 illness (or got worse during it) and that symptom has continued for at least 90 days since you first got sick
  • You have reduced exercise capacity compared to before COVID, either shown by a formal test or based on what you report yourself
  • You are willing and able to attend at least 12 in-person cardiac rehabilitation sessions at UCSF Parnassus (this applies to the active treatment group only)
  • You agree to take part in a related study called the LIINC Study, including its heart health sub-study, if you are not already enrolled in it

Who may not be able to join:

  • You are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during the study
  • You have a pre-existing heart condition such as a heart defect present from birth, heart failure, high blood pressure in the lungs, or you have had a heart or lung transplant, or heart valve surgery
  • You have had a heart attack, coronary bypass surgery, or a new diagnosis of significantly reduced heart pumping function within the last 90 days
  • You have been diagnosed with heart muscle inflammation (myocarditis) within the last 90 days
  • You have an irregular heart rhythm condition such as atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, or another rhythm problem that requires medication to control it
  • You currently take certain heart or blood pressure medications, including beta-blockers, a specific type of calcium channel blocker, or ivabradine (confirm with trial site if unsure about your medications)
  • You have an implanted pacemaker or defibrillator
  • You have a long-term lung condition that requires you to use oxygen at home
  • You are unable to ride a stationary (sitting) bicycle for an exercise test
  • You experience severe worsening of symptoms after physical activity that would make it unsafe or impossible to take part in cardiac rehabilitation
  • You have other medical or mental health conditions that the lead doctor believes would make it unsafe for you to take part in the trial
