Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are between 18 and 50 years old
- You have been recently diagnosed with MS (using 2017 McDonald criteria), a clinically isolated syndrome (CIS), or a radiologically isolated syndrome (RIS), and your symptoms first appeared within the past year (confirm with trial site)
- You have never received any treatment for MS before
- You are able to understand the potential risks, benefits, and other options involved in joining the trial, and can give your informed agreement to participate
Who may not be able to join:
- You have taken antibiotics in the last 90 days
- You have used probiotic or prebiotic supplements, or steroid medications, in the past month
- You have used any tobacco products in the past month
- You have ever been treated with medications that suppress the immune system
- You have had a stomach or gut infection in the past month, or you have a long-term infectious disease such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C, or HIV
- You are currently pregnant or have given birth within the last 6 months
- You have irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), ongoing constipation, or other bowel problems
- You have had surgery on your bowel at any point
- You have inflammatory bowel disease, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, diabetes, or any other autoimmune condition
- You have another neurological condition, or a mental health or psychiatric condition (such as severe depression, schizophrenia, or psychosis) that could make participation unsafe
- You have an eating disorder such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia, or binge eating disorder
- You have travelled outside of the country in the past month
- You have a reason you cannot take the medication vancomycin — for example, reduced kidney function, hearing problems, or a known allergy to it
- You are unable to have an MRI scan, for example because you have a metal implant in your body
