Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with papillary or follicular thyroid cancer, confirmed by a tissue biopsy
- Your doctor has recommended you have a standard total body iodine scan using a radioactive substance called I-123
- You are willing to have an additional type of scan called an 18F-TFB PET/CT scan after your regular iodine scan
- You are generally well enough to carry out daily self-care activities (confirm with trial site if unsure about this fitness level)
- You are able to lie still on a scanner table for up to 65 minutes
- You are 18 years of age or older
- You are able to understand and are willing to sign a written consent form
- You are not currently pregnant
Who may not be able to join:
- You have had a contrast-enhanced CT scan within the last 4 weeks
- You have taken a heart medication called Amiodarone within the last 4 months
- You have consumed iodine supplements, kelp tablets, Lugol's iodine, or potassium iodide within the last 2 weeks
- You are unable to lie flat or stay still, or cannot tolerate a PET scan
- You have applied iodine-containing skin products such as betadine, iodoform, or self-tanning products to your skin within the last 2 weeks
- Your TSH (thyroid hormone) level is below 25 if you are using medication withdrawal as part of your preparation for the scan (confirm with trial site)
- You have taken anti-thyroid medication within the last week
- You are currently breastfeeding
- You have a positive pregnancy test
