Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) as your main condition
- You scored 16 or higher on a standard OCD symptom rating scale (called the Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale) and are able to sign a consent form
- You have tried at least one treatment for OCD in the past
Who may not be able to join:
- You have ever had, or currently have, a psychotic disorder (a condition involving a break from reality, such as schizophrenia)
- You experienced a manic episode (an extreme high mood episode) within the last three years
- You currently have, or have had, a substance abuse or dependence problem that is not fully stable (not including nicotine/tobacco)
- You are pregnant, planning to become pregnant during the study, or unwilling to use a suitable method of contraception (this applies to the experimental group only)
- You currently have a severe personality disorder, unless it is obsessive-compulsive personality disorder
- You have a condition called Raynaud's disease, which affects blood flow to the fingers and toes (experimental group only)
- You are unable to follow the study's rules and requirements
- You are currently experiencing thoughts of suicide that are not stable or being managed
- You have high blood pressure that is not well controlled (experimental group only)
- You have an overactive thyroid that has not been treated (experimental group only)
- You have any unstable heart or blood vessel condition (experimental group only)
- You have an untreated condition that seriously affects a hormone system in your body called the HPA-axis, such as Addison's disease or Cushing's disease (confirm with trial site) (experimental group only)
- You are currently taking medications that strongly affect the HPA-axis hormone system, such as steroids like corticosteroids (experimental group only)
