Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 or older
- People who had specific scans before surgery, including ultrasound (with and without contrast dye), CT scan with contrast, and MRI
- People diagnosed with kidney cancer (renal cell carcinoma) that has spread into nearby blood vessels, confirmed before and during surgery
- People who had their kidney removed along with at least one type of procedure to remove a blood clot or tumour from the large vein in the abdomen (the inferior vena cava)
- People who were physically able to tolerate the surgery
- People with a general health and activity level rated between 0 and 2 on a standard medical scale (meaning fully active to capable of self-care but unable to work) (confirm with trial site)
- People with no previous history of any cancer
- People willing to come back for required follow-up appointments
Who may not be able to join:
- People who were unable to receive the standard kidney removal surgery for any reason
- People who had additional surgical procedures performed at the same time as the main surgery
- People who received treatment (such as medication or therapy) for their cancer before the surgery
- People with other conditions that could affect recovery or treatment outcomes, such as active tuberculosis, autoimmune diseases, or ongoing use of steroid medications
- People who experienced serious complications or death related to anaesthesia during the operation
