Who might be able to join this trial:

If you have already had your whole thyroid removed (Group 1):

• You are aged 16 or older
• You have been diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) where the tumour was between 1cm and 4cm, regardless of genetic markers found in the tumour
• Your surgeon was able to remove all visible cancer during the operation
• The cancer had not spread to lymph nodes, or had only spread to a small number of nearby lymph nodes (5 or fewer) with no spread beyond the lymph node itself
• The cancer was either fully contained within the thyroid or had only just started to grow slightly beyond it
• The cancer does not show certain higher-risk patterns under the microscope (small amounts may be acceptable — confirm with trial site)
• There is no sign the cancer has grown into blood vessels (small microscopic involvement of tiny vessels may still be acceptable — confirm with trial site)
• You have a specific type called encapsulated follicular variant PTC, where the cancer has only broken through its surrounding capsule
• You have a very small papillary thyroid cancer (1cm or less) that is either found in multiple spots, or has spread to a small number of nearby lymph nodes (5 or fewer, with no spread beyond the lymph node)
• You have been diagnosed with follicular thyroid cancer (including oncocytic or Hürthle cell type), where the tumour was between 1cm and 4cm, regardless of genetic markers
• Your follicular thyroid cancer is the minimally invasive type, with capsule involvement and/or a small amount of blood vessel involvement (4 or fewer spots), and is contained within or just beyond the thyroid

If you have not yet had thyroid surgery (Group 2):

• You are aged 16 or older
• A biopsy or needle test has shown a low-risk differentiated thyroid cancer
• The tumour appears to be between 1cm and 4cm based on scans, regardless of genetic markers
• There is no sign the cancer has spread to nearby lymph nodes
• The other side of your thyroid does not have any suspicious nodules, or any nodules found there have been assessed and appear non-concerning

Who may not be able to join:

If you have already had your whole thyroid removed (Group 1):

• Your tumour was larger than 4cm
• You have a single very small tumour (1cm or less) with no lymph node involvement
• You have been diagnosed with NIFTP (a borderline condition that is not considered true cancer)
• You have anaplastic, poorly differentiated, or medullary thyroid cancer
• There was cancer left behind that the surgeon could visibly see after the operation
• The cancer had grown extensively outside the thyroid gland
• The cancer is classified as stage T4, or has visibly invaded surrounding tissues or structures
• Cancer spread to nearby lymph nodes involved more than 5 lymph node spots, or had spread beyond the lymph node itself
• Cancer has spread to lymph nodes further away from the thyroid
• The cancer has spread to other parts of the body (for example, lungs or bones)
• Your papillary thyroid cancer shows any of these higher-risk features: widely invasive growth, poorly differentiated cells, anaplastic cells, or is mainly made up of higher-risk cell types (such as tall cell, columnar cell, hobnail, or diffuse sclerosing)
• Your follicular thyroid cancer (including oncocytic or Hürthle cell type) shows any of these features: extensive blood vessel invasion (more than 4 spots), widely invasive growth, poorly differentiated cells, or anaplastic cells

If you have not yet had thyroid surgery (Group 2):

• The cancer has already spread to other parts of the body (for example, lungs or bones)
