Who might be able to join this trial:
- Children and teenagers aged between 9 and 17 years
- People who have experienced a traumatic event and can remember at least one of those events
- People showing post-traumatic stress symptoms, as measured by a screening tool called the CATS-2 (a score of 21 or higher is required, either from the child or their caregiver)
- People (and their parents or guardians) who have a basic understanding of German, enough to follow the sessions and complete questionnaires
- People whose legal guardian has given formal consent to participate (for those under 14, consent must come from the legal guardian)
- People who have a positive or neutral attitude toward animals
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are unable to complete questionnaires due to limited language skills or a cognitive impairment
- People diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder where that diagnosis significantly limits their ability to interact with others or participate in a group setting (confirm with trial site)
- People currently experiencing serious safety concerns, such as active thoughts of suicide or acute psychosis
- People known to be misusing substances such as cannabis, alcohol, or other drugs as a way of managing their emotions
- People who have a fear of domestic animals
- People who have had allergic reactions to domestic animals
- People who have a history of aggressive behaviour toward animals
