Who might be able to join this trial:
- The tumor or lesion being biopsied must be safely reachable by a biopsy needle, with no organs or blood vessels in the way, and must have a solid portion (not purely fluid-filled cysts). For biopsies approached through the vagina, severe vaginal narrowing must not be present.
- People with a gynecological tumor who are already being considered for another clinical trial that requires a tissue sample for research purposes.
- People with a suspected new, widespread gynecological tumor who need a tissue sample confirmed by a laboratory before treatment can begin, and who are not suitable for major surgery either because of other health conditions or because the disease has spread too extensively.
- People with a suspected new, widespread non-gynecological tumor (or its spread) where a tissue sample is needed to confirm the diagnosis.
- People with a possible return of a gynecological cancer (such as cervical, uterine, or ovarian cancer) where laboratory confirmation of the recurrence is needed before surgery or other treatment can begin.
- People with a possible return of a non-gynecological cancer where laboratory confirmation is needed before treatment can begin.
- People with a single tumour of unknown type located in the vaginal wall, the tissue around the uterus, the space behind the abdominal lining, or the uterine wall, where a biopsy can be taken without spillage into the abdominal cavity.
Who may not be able to join:
- People under 18 years of age.
- People with a blood-clotting problem or who are taking blood-thinning medication that would make a biopsy unsafe, even with adjustments to their medication.
- People with an active infection in the vagina or pelvis.
- People whose general health is too poor to be considered for any specific cancer treatment.
