  • For the healthy/control group: You have never been told by a doctor that you have Celiac Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn's disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Functional Dyspepsia, or Type 2 Diabetes.
  • For the disease group: You have been diagnosed by a doctor, nutritionist, or naturopath with Celiac Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn's disease, IBS, Functional Dyspepsia, or Type 2 Diabetes, and you are willing to share paperwork confirming this or speak with the study lead.

  • You are not planning to change your diet or medical treatments during the study.

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have a condition that, in the opinion of the study investigator, could block or narrow your digestive tract in a way that might prevent a swallowed capsule from passing through safely — for example, difficulty swallowing (achalasia), a type of esophageal inflammation, a cancer diagnosis or treatment in the past year, or previous surgery on your esophagus, stomach, small intestine, or colon (confirm with trial site); removal of the appendix or gallbladder more than 3 months ago is generally acceptable.
  • You have had symptoms of a blockage in your digestive tract in the 3 months before joining the study.
  • You have taken certain medications in the past week that could significantly affect how your gut moves — such as opioid painkillers, anticholinergics, or GLP-1 medications (a type of diabetes/weight drug) — confirm with the trial site which specific medications apply to you.
  • You use certain types of laxatives (such as polyethylene glycol, milk of magnesia, lactulose, or stool softeners like docusate, or gut-stimulating prescription drugs like linaclotide or tenapanor) within 7 days of taking the study capsule.
  • You have difficulty swallowing or a swallowing disorder that could cause you to inhale the capsule into your lungs.
  • You have a known physical abnormality in your digestive tract, such as a narrowing (stricture) or abnormal tunnel (fistula), that causes a blockage.
  • You have previously had radiation treatment to your abdomen.
  • You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding (if an X-ray is needed to check the capsule has passed, a urine pregnancy test will be done first).
  • You have taken antibiotics or done a colon cleanse/bowel prep in the past 2 weeks.
  • For the healthy/control group only: You have fewer than 2 bowel movements per week.
