Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 years or older who are not suitable for a standard intensive treatment protocol (called the STUPP protocol), and who fall into one of two groups:
- Group 1: People aged 18–70 who cannot have surgery, have a functioning level score (Karnofsky Index) of 50% or above at the time of joining, and have biopsy results available
- Group 2: People over 70 who have been assessed as relatively fit for their age (Balducci score I or II), have a functioning level score of 60% or above, and have had either a partial surgical removal of the tumour or a biopsy result available
- People who have been confirmed through tissue testing to have glioblastoma (a type of brain tumour)
- People whose brain scan (a specialised PET scan using a tracer called FDOPA) shows increased activity in the tumour area, which allows doctors to map the treatment zone
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are considered suitable for the standard intensive treatment protocol (the STUPP protocol)
- People for whom MRI or PET scanning is not safe or suitable (for example, due to certain implants or allergies)
- People where the planned radiation treatment area falls less than 2 cm from the optic chiasm or optic nerves (structures involved in vision)
- People whose FDOPA PET scan does not show the expected tracer uptake in the tumour area
