Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 or older who have end-stage kidney disease and have chosen hemodialysis as their kidney treatment method
- People who are able to understand and give consent to take part in a research study
- People whose upper arm vein measures at least 2.0 mm wide
For one specific device used in the trial (Ellipsys):
- People whose radial artery and the nearby vein are no more than 1.5 mm apart, as confirmed by ultrasound before the procedure
- People whose radial artery and nearby vein each measure at least 2.0 mm wide at the point where they connect
For another specific device used in the trial (WavelinQ):
- People whose target vein and target artery each measure at least 2.0 mm wide, with no more than 2 mm between them
Who may not be able to join:
- People under the age of 18
- People who are unable to understand or give consent to participate
- People whose upper arm vein is less than 2.0 mm wide, making neither surgical nor non-surgical access creation suitable
- People where the surgeon and patient together have decided that a forearm access point is the best option, in order to keep other sites available for future use
- People who are currently incarcerated
- People who are currently pregnant or planning to become pregnant within the next 6 months
- People who have chosen peritoneal dialysis instead of hemodialysis, or who are expected to receive a kidney transplant within 6 months of joining the trial
