Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with colorectal endometriosis (endometriosis affecting the rectum or lower part of the large bowel), confirmed by ultrasound or MRI
- Women who are in a relationship with either a male or female partner
- People who are actively trying to become pregnant and meet at least one of the following: have been unable to conceive for at least one year (naturally or after fertility treatments); are unable to have timed intercourse due to pain during sex or ongoing pelvic pain; or have severe symptoms where waiting for treatment is no longer considered acceptable
- People who meet the Dutch medical guidelines for IVF/ICSI treatment — for example, due to previous unsuccessful fertility treatments, a male partner with very low sperm count, both fallopian tubes being blocked, being over 38 with unexplained difficulty conceiving, or having severe endometriosis alongside difficulty conceiving
- People who are currently facing a choice between IVF/ICSI and laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis, or who are on a waiting list for one of these treatments
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have deep endometriosis that does not involve the rectum or large bowel
- People who become pregnant naturally before any treatment begins
- People who need surgery urgently and therefore cannot consider IVF/ICSI first — for example, due to kidney blockage, severe bowel narrowing, or signs of a possible bowel obstruction
- People who have a medical reason that makes IVF/ICSI unsuitable — such as very low ovarian reserve, certain untreated structural differences in the uterus, untreated serious illness, or significant risks associated with egg collection (confirm with trial site)
- People who have other medical conditions known to cause difficulty conceiving, such as recurrent miscarriages or antiphospholipid syndrome
- People who are not able to read and understand Dutch or English
