Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Women Veterans who live in the community (not in a care facility) and are 18 years of age or older
  • People who have received care from the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (VAGLAHS)
  • People who are currently experiencing symptoms of PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
  • People who are currently experiencing symptoms of insomnia (ongoing difficulty sleeping)

Who may not be able to join:

  • People whose health problems, emotional difficulties, or drug or alcohol use would make it hard to take part in the study
  • People who are too unwell to take part in the study activities
  • People who are not able to give their own consent to participate
  • People who have already taken part in more than one session of a specific sleep therapy called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I)
  • People who have already attended more than one session of a PTSD education group offered at the VAGLAHS Women's Health Clinic
  • People who have already completed more than three sessions of a PTSD treatment program, such as Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • People who are currently pregnant or who have been pregnant within the last 6 months
  • People who have been diagnosed with moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea that has not been treated, or who show signs of being at high risk for this condition
  • People who do not have stable housing
  • People who are not able to read, write, and communicate in English
  • People who have medical or psychiatric conditions that are not currently stable (confirm with trial site)
  • People whose PTSD or insomnia symptoms have already gone away or are in remission
