Who might be able to join this trial:
- You must be able to understand the study and be willing to sign a consent form agreeing to take part.
- You must have confirmed or suspected kidney cancer (either in one location or that has spread), and your doctors must already be planning to remove the tumor or a spread of the cancer through surgery, with the tumor being at least 1cm in size.
- You must be 18 years of age or older.
- You must be seen by a cancer specialist (oncologist) who will decide the best treatment plan for you based on your situation.
- Your doctors must consider you healthy enough to safely have both a needle-based procedure and your planned surgery.
- You must have blood test results within an acceptable range taken within 30 days before the procedure, showing your immune cells, platelets, and blood clotting levels are at safe levels.
- You must have already had a CT scan or MRI as part of your normal care that shows the extent of your cancer.
- Your case must be reviewed by a specialist in image-guided procedures (interventional radiology) and a surgical specialist to confirm the tumor is suitable for a small research device to be placed into it and removed during surgery.
- You must be willing to have your genetic information studied (from both the tumor and your normal cells) and agree to have your anonymized genetic data stored in a secure government research database.
Who may not be able to join:
- You may not be able to join if you have an uncontrolled illness, such as an active infection, serious heart problems, or a mental health or personal situation that would make a biopsy or surgery unsafe.
- You may not be able to join if you have a bleeding or clotting disorder that cannot be treated or corrected and that would increase the risk of a biopsy or surgery.
