Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 years or older
- People who have been recently diagnosed with glioblastoma (a type of brain tumour), with the diagnosis confirmed by a tissue test within the last 2 months
- People who have not yet started standard chemotherapy or radiation treatment for glioblastoma
- People whose physical functioning meets a minimum level on a medical scale called the Karnofsky Performance Status, scored at 70 or above (confirm with trial site)
- People who are able to read, write, and understand English or Spanish
- People who are willing and able to provide written consent to participate and to follow the study requirements
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose glioblastoma has come back after previous treatment
- People with inherited conditions that affect how the body processes fats, such as pyruvate carboxylase deficiency, porphyria, primary carnitine deficiency, or certain other related genetic disorders
- People who cannot reduce their steroid medication below a certain daily dose (8mg of dexamethasone per day, or an equivalent amount)
- People with a Body Mass Index (a measure of body weight relative to height) below 21, unless the trial site's lead doctor considers it safe
- People who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- People who are already taking part in another experimental treatment study (note: use of medicines outside their approved purpose is allowed)
- People with other health conditions that, in the opinion of the trial doctor, would prevent them from completing the study
- People whose food preferences are not compatible with a ketogenic (very low carbohydrate, high fat) diet
- People who use certain electronic medical devices, such as a pacemaker, implantable heart defibrillator, neurostimulator, or cochlear implants — unless the trial site's lead doctor considers participation safe (removable hearing aids are permitted)
- People who are unable to have standard MRI scans as part of their care
