Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) based on recognised medical guidelines, with a disability score between 2.0 and 6.5, and your condition has been stable (not significantly worsening) over the last 3 months with no MS flare-up in the past 4 weeks.
  • Your MS medications have not changed for at least 1 month, you have not taken steroid treatments in the last month, and you have not had botulinum toxin (e.g. Botox) injections in your legs (above the knee) in the last 3 months.
  • You are between 18 and 65 years old and weigh less than 135kg.
  • You are able to follow and carry out a simple three-step instruction (confirm with trial site).
  • You have not had a heart attack in the past month, your blood pressure is reasonably controlled (below 190/110 mmHg at rest), you do not experience dizziness or faintness when standing up, and your diabetes (if you have it) is under control.
  • You are generally in stable health, without serious infections, significant heart or metabolic conditions that prevent exercise, severe bone weakness or fracture history, circulation problems in your legs, or serious lung conditions that limit your ability to exercise.
  • Your legs and ankles can move through a normal range of motion needed for walking exercises, including bending at the ankle, knee, and hip within certain ranges (confirm with trial site).
  • You are not currently receiving formal physical therapy or supervised exercise from a professional, though other therapies like occupational or speech therapy are fine, and continuing your usual personal exercise routine is encouraged.
  • You have no other neurological conditions, no history of epileptic seizures, no nerve injury in your lower legs, and no history of traumatic brain injury.
  • You have adequate hearing and vision (at least 20/80 with correction if needed).
  • You are able to walk at least 10 metres on your own, even if you use a walking aid or brace, and you do not have severe muscle stiffness, extreme fatigue, or exercise intolerance that would prevent stepping exercises.
  • You are not currently pregnant and are not planning to become pregnant during the study.
  • You are willing and able to commit to the full training schedule, attend all assessments, sign a consent form, and accept being randomly assigned to any of the 4 study groups.

Who may not be able to join:

  • You are under 18 or over 65 years old, or you weigh 135kg or more.
  • You cannot follow a simple three-step spoken instruction (confirm with trial site).
  • You have had a heart attack in the past month, have uncontrolled high blood pressure, experience faintness when standing, or have uncontrolled diabetes.
  • You have a serious ongoing infection, significant heart or metabolic disease, severe bone fragility, circulation problems in your legs, swelling in your legs, or a serious lung condition affecting your ability to exercise.
  • Your legs or ankles do not have enough range of movement for the required walking exercises (confirm with trial site).
