Who might be able to join this trial:
- People diagnosed with cervical cancer at a specific stage (Stage Ib3, IIA2, IIB, III, or IVA using the FIGO 2018 staging system), with one of three specific cancer cell types: squamous cell carcinoma, adenosquamous cell carcinoma, or adenocarcinoma.
- People who have completed a full standard course of combined radiation and chemotherapy treatment, including internal radiation (brachytherapy) and platinum-based chemotherapy given at the same time as external radiation.
- People whose treatment finished 4 to 12 weeks ago, and where either a cervical biopsy confirmed cancer is still present, or a PET/CT scan showed signs of remaining disease in the cervix or nearby lymph nodes meeting specific scan measurement criteria — and where a specialist medical team has recommended surgery as the next step.
- People with a physical fitness score of 0 or 1 on a standard medical scale (meaning fully active or able to carry out light activity — confirm with trial site).
- People whose life expectancy is estimated to be more than 6 months.
- People who have no absolute medical reason preventing surgery and who are able to follow the trial requirements.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who did not complete their full course of radiation and chemotherapy, or who did not receive the required radiation dose.
- People whose PET/CT scan or biopsy results show cancer has spread to distant parts of the body, including lymph nodes near the main abdominal artery (para-aortic lymph nodes).
- People who have been diagnosed with another cancer within the past five years, or who are currently being treated for another cancer.
- People who have had a major organ transplant.
- People with an immune system disease that requires them to take medication to suppress the immune system.
- People with a history of serious mental illness or significant brain function disorder.
- People with a history of drug abuse or substance misuse.
- People who are currently participating in another clinical trial at the same time.
- People who are unable or unwilling to have surgery, sign a consent form, or follow the study requirements.
- People who have certain serious medical conditions affecting the kidneys, liver, lungs, or heart that make surgery unsafe (confirm specific details with the trial site).
- People who are unable to understand the study plan or who decline to sign the informed consent form.
- People with other serious illnesses or conditions that could significantly affect their health or interfere with the trial.
