Who might be able to join this trial:
For all participants:
- You must have access to the internet through a laptop, tablet, or phone (for completing online surveys)
- You must be able to speak and understand English
- A parent or guardian must be willing to follow the study rules, complete assessments, and sign a consent form
For participants joining as a "control" (comparison group):
- You must have no history of chronic pain and no current chronic pain
For participants joining as a patient:
- You must have a diagnosed chronic pain condition in one of these categories: headaches (such as migraine or daily headache), stomach/abdominal pain, pain in one specific area of the body (such as a limb, joint, lower back, or chest), or widespread muscle and joint pain
- If you take any pain or mental health medications, you must have been on a stable, unchanged dose for at least 4 weeks before the study starts
Who may not be able to join:
For all participants:
- You have a skin condition (such as eczema) or past skin damage on your arms or legs where testing would take place
- You have another ongoing illness such as arthritis, lupus, epilepsy, a brain injury, cancer, or diabetes
For participants in the "control" (comparison) group:
- You are taking any medications that could affect how you feel pain, such as anti-inflammatory drugs, opioids, stimulants, seizure medications, or psychiatric medications
For participants joining as a patient:
- You have a current mental health condition (such as psychosis, bipolar disorder, major depression, or severe anxiety), alcohol or drug dependence, or a developmental condition (such as autism, cerebral palsy, ADHD, or intellectual disability) that the study team feels could affect your ability to safely participate (confirm with trial site)
