Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are an adult (over 18) with melanoma that cannot be surgically removed, and your cancer has continued to grow or spread after receiving certain immunotherapy treatments (such as pembrolizumab, nivolumab, or ipilimumab)
- Your doctor is planning to start you on a combination of two immunotherapy drugs: ipilimumab and nivolumab
- Your doctor considers you healthy enough to receive this two-drug immunotherapy combination
- You have at least one tumor that a specialist can treat using a needle-based freezing procedure (called cryoablation), guided by imaging
- You have at least one other measurable tumor, separate from the one being frozen, that doctors can track on scans
- You have a life expectancy of more than 3 months
- You are well enough to carry out basic daily activities (confirm with trial site)
- Your blood, liver, and kidney test results meet certain minimum levels of function (confirm with trial site for specific values)
- You have had prior radiation therapy, as long as it was not to the specific tumor being frozen
- If you have HIV, you are on effective treatment and your virus levels were undetectable within the last 6 months
- If you have or had hepatitis B, your virus levels are undetectable on treatment
- If you have or had hepatitis C, you have been successfully treated and cured, or your virus is currently undetectable on treatment
- You have brain tumors that are not causing any symptoms, and your doctor does not feel you need immediate brain-specific treatment
- You have had or currently have another type of cancer that is unlikely to interfere with this study
- You are willing and able to read and sign a consent form
Who may not be able to join:
- The tumor chosen for the freezing procedure has previously been treated with radiation or another local treatment
- You are unable to safely pause blood-thinning medications before the freezing procedure, if your doctor requires this
- You are currently taking part in another clinical trial involving an experimental treatment
- Your cancer is currently getting worse while you are already receiving the combination of ipilimumab and nivolumab
- You are still experiencing significant side effects (worse than mild) from a previous cancer treatment
- You have brain tumors or spinal fluid involvement that is causing symptoms
- You are currently taking more than 10mg of prednisone (or an equivalent steroid) by mouth daily
- You have another serious illness or medical condition that is not well controlled
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
