Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are currently in hospital with heart failure and fluid build-up around the lungs (pleural effusion)
- People for whom a procedure to remove and test the fluid around the lungs has already been recommended as part of their care
- People aged 18 years or older
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have previously had treatments applied directly into the space around the lung on the same side (such as talc or clot-dissolving agents)
- People who have previously had surgery to remove scar tissue from the lung lining, or a procedure to permanently seal the space around the lung, on the same side
- People who have had surgery on the chest or heart on the same side within the past 3 months
- People who are unable to give their consent to participate, either because they have chosen not to or because a cognitive impairment makes it difficult for them to do so
