Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are between 18 and 65 years old.
  • You are overweight or obese, meaning your body mass index (BMI) is 25 or higher.
  • You have had general low back pain (not caused by a specific known condition) for at least 3 months and are currently seeking care for it.
  • Any leg pain you have rates 6 or below out of 10 on a pain scale.
  • You are willing to continue your usual care for at least 6 weeks before the study starts and throughout the study.
  • You are a native Dutch speaker (if joining from Belgium) or a native German speaker (if joining from Switzerland).

Who may not be able to join:

  • Your BMI is 40 or higher (considered severely obese).
  • Your body fat percentage falls within a healthy range even if your BMI is high, for example if you have a muscular build (confirm with trial site).
  • You are currently pregnant, breastfeeding, or have given birth in the past year.
  • You are currently following a special diet or exercise programme, or have done so in the past 6 weeks.
  • You have a specific known spinal condition such as a slipped disc, spinal narrowing, spinal fractures, infection, or cancer in the spine.
  • You have a serious health condition such as diagnosed diabetes, heart problems, or metabolic diseases.
  • You are currently taking medication for, or being treated by a doctor for, a specific serious condition, such as an eating disorder.
  • You have an ongoing insurance dispute related to your back pain.
