Who might be able to join this trial:

• Adults between 18 and 80 years of age
• People with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 25 or higher (a measure of body weight relative to height)

Who may not be able to join:

For the Arm 2 group (which involves a fat tissue sample procedure):

• People who are pregnant
• People who have previously had liposuction
• People whose weight has changed by more than 2 kg within the past month
• People who have a condition that affects blood clotting
• People who take blood-thinning medications

For the Arm 3 group (healthy controls only):

• People who have a serious disease affecting a major organ (such as the heart, liver, or kidneys)
• People who have diabetes
• People who have previously had liposuction
• People who have had weight-loss (bariatric) surgery
• People with a history of eating disorders
• People with a history of psychiatric disorders
• People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
• People whose weight has changed recently within the past 12 weeks
• People who use weight-loss medications or oral steroid medications
• People whose hematocrit (a measure of red blood cells in the blood) is below 33%
• People whose fasting blood sugar level is 126 mg/dL or higher
• People whose blood pressure is above 160/100 mmHg
