Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have recently had a brittle (fragility) hip fracture
- People who have recently had a brittle (fragility) spinal fracture
- People who have recently had a brittle (fragility) fracture at another location in the body, and/or have a bone density scan result below a certain level at the hip or spine (T-value less than -1.0)
- Men or women who have gone through menopause
- People aged between 45 and 90 years old
- People who are able to move around on their own
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a bone disease other than osteoporosis, such as Osteogenesis Imperfecta, Paget's disease, Osteomalacia, Cushing's syndrome, or hyperprolactinemia (a hormone condition)
- People who have a condition called primary hyperparathyroidism or an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism)
- People who have had or currently have a jaw bone infection or jaw bone tissue death (osteomyelitis or necrosis of the jaw)
- People whose kidneys are not working well enough (low kidney filtration rate below 30ml/min/1.73m²) (confirm with trial site)
- People who currently have an active infection that requires ongoing treatment throughout the body
- People who have been treated with intravenous bisphosphonates, fluoride, or strontium for osteoporosis within the past 2 years
- People who have been treated with teriparatide or denosumab for osteoporosis within the past 6 months
- People who have used steroid medications (such as prednisone at more than 5mg per day) for more than 10 days within the past 6 weeks
- People who have taken oral bisphosphonate tablets for osteoporosis for a total period of more than 1 month within the past year (confirm with trial site)
- People who have been diagnosed with a cancer or bone metastases (cancer that has spread to bones) within the past 5 years, unless the cancer is considered fully cured after treatment
- People who have abnormally low or abnormally high calcium levels in their blood
- People who have an unexplained rise in a blood marker called alkaline phosphatase
- People who have a severely low vitamin D level (25OHD below 10ng/mL)
- People who have previously had radiation treatment to the bones, or radiation therapy using bone implants
- People who have uncontrolled serious health conditions, including certain levels of heart failure, poorly controlled diabetes (HbA1c above 8.5%), or severe irregular heartbeat
- People who are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or currently breastfeeding, or who plan to become pregnant during the study
- People who have a known allergy to teriparatide or denosumab
- People who are currently participating in another clinical drug trial
- People considered by the trial team to be otherwise unsuitable for this study (confirm with trial site)
