Who might be able to join this trial:
- Your nasopharyngeal cancer (cancer in the back of the nose/throat) came back more than 6 months after you finished radiation therapy.
- A tissue sample (biopsy) has confirmed that your nasopharyngeal cancer has returned.
- Your returned cancer is considered removable by surgery, based on its size and location — including certain cases where the tumor is near a major blood vessel, provided that vessel has been treated beforehand (confirm with trial site).
- After receiving 3 cycles of a specific combination of chemotherapy and immunotherapy before surgery, your cancer shrank by at least a certain amount as measured by scans.
- You are willing and able to sign a consent form agreeing to take part.
Who may not be able to join:
- Your general health and ability to carry out daily activities is rated too low on a standard health scale (confirm with trial site).
- You have serious problems with major organs, a severe ongoing illness, or a significant history of mental health conditions.
- Your tumor is located only on the roof or back wall of the throat area, where this type of surgery would not be expected to help.
- You have cancer that has returned in the lymph nodes in your neck and has spread into nearby bones or major blood vessels, making surgery not possible.
- Your cancer has spread to other parts of your body (metastatic disease).
- You have or have had another type of cancer, unless it was a fully cured form of skin cancer or a very early-stage cervical condition.
- You have taken steroid medications (such as cortisone or prednisone) within the 4 weeks before the planned start of treatment.
- You have a condition that requires long-term use of drugs that suppress the immune system, or you need high-dose steroid treatment regularly.
- You have previously been treated with certain types of immunotherapy drugs (PD-1, PD-L1, or CTLA-4 blocking treatments).
- You have an active autoimmune disease — meaning your immune system is currently attacking your own body (for example, certain eye, gut, liver, kidney, or thyroid conditions). Note: some mild skin conditions that do not need systemic treatment may still be allowed (confirm with trial site).
- You have HIV, a certain level of active Hepatitis B infection, or a positive test for Hepatitis C antibodies.
- You have received a live vaccine within 4 weeks before the planned start of treatment, or you are currently pregnant or breastfeeding.
- You are unable to attend regular follow-up appointments.
