Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 or older who are scheduled to have part of their liver removed (either through open surgery or keyhole surgery) because cancer has spread to the liver from the bowel or rectum
- People who have signs of fatty liver disease, shown on a scan (CT or MRI) or a tissue sample taken before surgery
- People who are able to use a smartphone app to record and track what they eat during the diet part of the study
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are having liver surgery for any reason other than bowel or rectal cancer that has spread to the liver
- People who are currently taking a type of diabetes medication called SGLT-2 inhibitors (examples include medications such as dapagliflozin or empagliflozin) (confirm with trial site)
- People who do not have signs of fatty liver disease
- People who have signs of liver scarring (fibrosis) or severe liver damage (cirrhosis), detected through blood tests or scans done before surgery
- People whose fatty liver disease is caused by alcohol use
- People who have a known condition that affects blood clotting
