Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have a relatively good level of physical fitness and are able to carry out normal daily activities (confirm with trial site)
  • You are between 18 and 70 years old, and are male or a woman who is not pregnant
  • You have been confirmed by a tissue biopsy to have a specific type of nasopharyngeal cancer (a cancer in the back of the nose/throat), classified as WHO type II or III
  • You have been newly diagnosed with stage III or stage IVa nasopharyngeal cancer (using the most recent staging system)
  • Your blood counts, liver, kidneys, and blood clotting function are all within acceptable ranges, and your heart enzyme levels are normal (confirm specific values with trial site)
  • You are willing and able to sign a consent form and follow all the visits, treatments, and tests required by the study

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have used the study nutritional supplements (Oral Impact® or ENSURE®) in the month before joining
  • You have a known allergy or intolerance to any ingredient in the study supplements or the chemotherapy drugs used in the trial
  • You have diabetes that is not well controlled
  • You have an autoimmune disease (where your immune system attacks your own body)
  • You currently have an active infection
  • You have previously received radiation therapy or any other cancer treatment
  • You have a history of any other type of cancer
  • You already have mouth sores at the start of the study
  • You are already malnourished at the start of the study
  • You are unable to eat the required amount of food and currently need nutrition through a tube or drip
  • You are unable to eat soft solid foods at the start of the study
  • You have HIV, or currently have an active hepatitis B or C infection
  • You have taken part in another clinical intervention study within the past month
  • You have other serious conditions (including mental health conditions), very abnormal test results, or personal or social circumstances that the study doctor believes could affect your safety or the reliability of the study data
