Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are between 18 and 70 years old
  • Your doctor has considered you a possible candidate for TMS (a type of brain stimulation treatment) for PTSD
  • You have been diagnosed with PTSD based on a specific clinical assessment called the CAPS-5

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have a medical reason why brain stimulation treatment would not be safe for you, such as having metal in your head, a history of seizures, a brain tumor, a stroke, a brain aneurysm, or multiple sclerosis (confirm with trial site)
  • You are unable to have an MRI scan, for example because of metal in your body or because you cannot tolerate the procedure
  • You have had an active substance use disorder in the last 3 months, or you are currently using substances in a way that could put you at risk or affect your ability to participate
  • You have dementia or another condition affecting your memory or thinking that would prevent you from taking part in the study
  • You have ever been diagnosed with schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, delusional disorder, or any other psychotic illness
  • You are considered to be at significant risk of suicide
  • OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder) is your main or primary diagnosis (having some OCD symptoms is acceptable)
  • You are currently taking medication that significantly lowers the threshold for having a seizure, such as certain antidepressants or clozapine (confirm with trial site)
  • You are currently pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or think you might be pregnant
  • You have an unstable medical condition that could make it unsafe for you to receive TMS treatment (confirm with trial site)
  • You have had a severe traumatic brain injury
  • You have previously received TMS treatment, or have already taken part in another study involving TMS
  • You are currently involved in legal cases, disability claims, or compensation claims that the research team believes could affect the study, particularly if your mental health is being evaluated as part of those proceedings
  • You are not an English speaker, as quick and clear communication is required during testing
