Who might be able to join this trial:
For people with cancer:
- Adults aged 18 years or older
- People who have been diagnosed with a specific type of head and neck cancer called squamous cell carcinoma, confirmed through a tissue test
- People whose cancer (in the primary area or nearby lymph nodes) measures more than 3cm
- People who are in reasonably good general health, based on a standard medical scale (ECOG score of 0–2)
- People who are planned to have surgery or radiation therapy (with or without chemotherapy) with the aim of curing the cancer
- People who are willing to have more than one MRI scan during the study
- People who are able to understand and sign a written consent form
- People whose kidneys are functioning at an adequate level, based on a specific blood test result
- People who are able to lie flat on their back comfortably for up to one hour
For healthy volunteers:
- Adults aged 18 years or older
- People who are willing to have more than one MRI scan during the study
- People who are able to understand and sign a written consent form
Who may not be able to join:
For people with cancer:
- People who, in the opinion of the study doctor, have other serious illness that makes participation unsuitable
- People for whom having repeated MRI scans is medically not appropriate
- People who have had another solid-organ cancer treated within the last 5 years
- People who are pregnant
- People with a history of significant breathing or airway problems
- People who have had an allergic reaction to gadolinium contrast dye (a substance used in some MRI scans)
For healthy volunteers:
- People who are unwilling to sign a consent form
- People for whom having an MRI scan is medically not appropriate
- People with a significant underlying lung or breathing condition
