Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are 18 years old or older
  • You are any gender (male or female)

Who may not be able to join:

  • You are under 18 years old
  • You do not wish to give written consent to participate
  • You have a stage IV cancer (the most advanced stage of any cancer)
  • You have a condition where your immune system does not work properly from birth or due to a primary medical condition
  • Your neutrophil count (a type of white blood cell) is below 1,500 per mm³ (confirm with trial site)
  • You have a known allergy or sensitivity to a medicine called anakinra
  • You had lung scarring (fibrosis) before you got COVID-19
  • You have a history of high blood pressure in the lungs (pulmonary hypertension) or chronic heart failure
  • You had a severe form of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD, stages 3 or 4) before getting COVID-19
  • You currently have active or latent (inactive but present) tuberculosis
  • You have been taking steroid tablets or IV steroids at a relatively high daily dose for more than the past 15 days (confirm exact dose threshold with trial site)
  • You have received any biological treatment that targets the immune system's signalling proteins in the past month
  • You have severe liver failure (confirm with trial site)
  • You have end-stage kidney failure requiring dialysis or filtration treatment
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding (a urine pregnancy test will be carried out before joining)
  • You are currently taking part in any other clinical trial involving a treatment or intervention
