Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are between 20 and 75 years old (male or female)
  • You are able to give written consent and can communicate clearly with the study team
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is between 20 and 50, and your weight has been stable for the past 3 months
  • A special liver scan called a FibroScan shows a certain level of fat in your liver (CAP score of 238 or higher)
  • The same FibroScan shows your liver scarring is at a low-to-moderate level (F0 to F3) (confirm with trial site)

Who may not be able to join:

  • You are pregnant, breastfeeding, planning to become pregnant, or not willing to use an acceptable form of birth control during the study
  • You have Type 1 diabetes
  • You have been diagnosed with another cause of chronic liver disease, such as hepatitis B or C, autoimmune liver disease, or certain inherited conditions affecting the liver
  • You currently take certain medications that can cause fat buildup in the liver, such as amiodarone, methotrexate, tamoxifen, high-dose steroids, or certain hormonal therapies (confirm with trial site)
  • You currently take high-dose vitamin E, pioglitazone, certain diabetes medications (SGLT2 inhibitors or GLP-1 agonists), or any approved drug for fatty liver disease
  • You have had a serious health event in the past 6 months, such as heart failure, a stroke, a mini-stroke, unstable heart disease, severe lung disease, kidney failure requiring dialysis, or an organ transplant
  • You drink more alcohol than the study allows (more than 20g per day for women or 30g per day for men), or you have a history of alcohol misuse (confirm with trial site)
  • Certain abnormal blood test results, including high triglycerides, abnormal liver enzymes, or problems with blood clotting or protein levels (confirm with trial site)
  • Your blood sugar control (HbA1c) has been poor, above 8.5%, in the past 3 months
  • You are planning to have major surgery during the study, such as weight-loss surgery or bile duct surgery
  • You have taken part in another clinical trial within the past 30 days
  • You have a history of HIV
