- You have been prescribed one of these heart/blood pressure medications through a VA pharmacy: metoprolol (succinate or tartrate), atenolol, labetalol, carvedilol, or bisoprolol
Who may not be able to join:
- You have difficulty making your own medical decisions
- You have a history of asthma and are NOT currently taking the medication carvedilol
- You have a known allergy or bad reaction to any ingredient in either of the study drugs
- Your doctor is not willing to write a new medication order if you are assigned to a treatment group
- You are unable to give consent yourself, as a family member or other person cannot give consent on your behalf
