Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with Alport syndrome (a kidney disease) at the start of the trial screening process.
- Teenagers aged 10 to under 18 who have high levels of protein in their urine (a urine test result of 300mg/g creatinine or above) and whose kidneys are still functioning at a reasonable level (eGFR of 30 or above).
- Adults aged 18 to under 40 who have high levels of protein in their urine (a urine test result of 500mg/g creatinine or above) and whose kidneys are functioning at a good level (eGFR of 60 or above).
- People whose Alport syndrome has been confirmed either through a genetic test or a kidney biopsy.
- People who are already on a stable dose of a type of blood pressure or kidney-protecting medication called RAS blockade therapy.
- People who are able to provide signed and dated written consent to participate.
Who may not be able to join:
- People with a medical history that could limit their ability to safely take the trial medications (confirm with trial site).
- People who are currently taking, or have taken within the past 4 weeks, a type of diabetes medication called an SGLT2 inhibitor.
- People whose kidney function is below a certain level (eGFR below 60), who are on dialysis, or who have had a kidney transplant.
- People with blood pressure that is not well controlled (above 145/95 mmHg).
- People who have a known allergy or sensitivity to the medications being studied in this trial.
- People with a history of alcohol or drug misuse, either in the past or currently.
- People who are currently participating in another clinical trial involving an investigational drug.
- Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or not using an acceptable form of contraception.
