Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 or older, of any gender
- People who are scheduled to have surgery to remove a known or suspected brain tumour called glioblastoma (GBM)
- People with a general health and functioning level of 70% or higher on a standard medical scale called the Karnofsky Performance Status (confirm with trial site)
- People expected to live at least 6 months, in the opinion of the treating doctor
- People whose neurosurgeon believes at least 80% of the tumour's active (enhancing) region can be removed during surgery
- People who are able to have an MRI scan
- People whose blood test results meet certain levels for immune cells, platelets, red blood cells, liver function, and kidney function (the trial site will check these)
- Women who could become pregnant must have a negative blood pregnancy test and be willing to use an acceptable form of contraception
- Men who could father a child must be willing to use an acceptable form of contraception with their partner
- People who are able to understand and willing to sign a consent form (a legal representative may do this on someone's behalf)
- People confirmed during surgery to have WHO Grade IV glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) based on tissue analysis
- People for whom a specific type of tissue flap used in the procedure is technically possible during surgery (confirm with trial site)
Who may not be able to join:
- Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People who have already started chemotherapy or radiation therapy for GBM
- People who plan to take part in another clinical trial at the same time
- People who plan to have a different treatment called Gliadel® wafer implanted during the same surgery
- People who currently have an active infection that requires treatment
- People whose scans show the tumour has spread to multiple areas of the brain or to the lining of the brain and spinal cord
- People with a history of another cancer, unless they have been cancer-free for at least 5 years — though certain skin cancers (basal cell or squamous cell), and localised prostate or cervical cancer that has been successfully treated, may still be eligible (confirm with trial site)
- People who have tested positive for HIV, or who have an active hepatitis B or hepatitis C infection
- People with another significant medical condition that the trial team believes could put them at risk or affect how the study is carried out
