Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with a schizophrenia-related condition, or a mood disorder with psychotic symptoms, confirmed through a structured diagnostic interview
- People who are currently hearing voices (auditory verbal hallucinations), at a level measured as moderately severe or above on a standard clinical scale
- People who have been hearing voices for at least one year
- People whose voices involve significant negative content and/or are causing distress, as measured by a standard rating scale
- People who are currently taking antipsychotic medication, or who have previously tried at least two different antipsychotic medications that were stopped due to not working well enough or causing side effects
- People who have access to the internet and a device (such as a computer, tablet, or phone) that can run video call software
- People who speak English well enough to take part meaningfully in the trial
- People aged 18 or older
- People who are able to give informed consent to participate
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose voices are thought to be caused primarily by a substance use disorder or a physical/neurological condition
- People with an estimated IQ below 70, as measured by a specific cognitive test
- People who have recently changed their antipsychotic medication in the past month, or who have a medication change planned at the time of joining the trial
- People who are currently receiving, or have received in the past 3 months, individual psychological therapy for hearing voices, or who have had electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) or other brain stimulation treatments in that time
- People whose voices speak in a language that the trial therapists do not speak
