Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are an adult (any sex)
- You have an enlarged spleen (felt by a doctor as sticking out at least 1 cm below the lower edge of your rib cage), OR you have had your spleen removed for reasons not linked to a specific diagnosed condition, OR you have a low platelet count (with or without an enlarged spleen)
- If you are already receiving treatment for an underlying condition, your low platelet count must have existed before that treatment started
- You are willing to give your consent to take part in the study
Who may not be able to join:
- Your enlarged spleen is caused by high blood pressure in the liver's blood vessels (portal hypertension) due to liver disease, confirmed by an ultrasound or other scan
- You have a blood cancer (such as leukemia or lymphoma), confirmed by a physical exam plus a blood test, needle sample, or bone marrow biopsy
- You have a condition where your red blood cells break down too quickly (hemolytic anemia) and/or a blood disorder called thalassemia
- You have mental or cognitive difficulties, are unable to cooperate, or have difficulty reading or understanding written language that would make it hard to follow the study requirements (confirm with trial site)
- You do not wish to take part in the study
