  • People whose cancer is located on one side of the nasopharynx only and does not cross the midline, as confirmed by camera examination and MRI scan.
  • People who are planned to receive a type of targeted radiation treatment called IMRT, with chemotherapy given according to standard Chinese oncology guidelines based on their cancer stage.
  • People who have not received any previous cancer treatment.
  • People with a Karnofsky performance score of at least 70 out of 100, which generally means they are able to carry out normal activity with some effort (confirm with trial site).

  • People whose blood counts, liver function, and kidney function meet the required levels as assessed by blood tests (confirm with trial site for specific values).

Who may not be able to join:

  • People whose treatment is planned with the aim of managing symptoms rather than curing the disease.
  • People who have already received radiotherapy, chemotherapy, or surgery (other than diagnostic procedures) to the nasopharynx area.
  • People whose cancer continued to grow or spread during initial chemotherapy before radiation treatment.
  • People whose cancer has spread to distant parts of the body (metastasis).
  • People whose cancer is a different type, specifically keratinized squamous cell carcinoma or basal cell-like squamous cell carcinoma.
  • People who have had another cancer in the past, unless it was certain low-risk skin cancers, early-stage cervical cancer, or papillary thyroid cancer that was adequately treated.
  • People with significant heart problems, including severe heart failure, unstable chest pain, a heart attack within the past year, or a serious irregular heartbeat requiring treatment.
  • People who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • People with a mental health condition, drug or alcohol dependency, or who do not have full legal capacity to make decisions for themselves.
